PRESS RELEASE TME reports sales of 233,336 Toyota and Lexus vehicles in the first quarter of 2011, up 13% from 2010. Monthly vehicle sales have consistently exceeded targets since June 2010. Toyota's overall monthly sales in March surpassed the 100,000 mark for the first time since March 2009 with increased demand for Toyota's AYGO, Auris family vehicles, RAV4 and Land Cruiser. The Toyota Verso-S and Lexus CT 200h also made strong debuts in the first quarter of 2011.

Miguel Fonseca, TME Vice President for Sales, said: 'Toyota's strong sales trend in Europe continues to accelerate in 2011 as market conditions improves across the continent. The Toyota Verso-S and Lexus CT 200h, the latest to join our model line-up, have both been warmly received by customers.'

He added: 'The thoughts of every Toyota member in Europe are with the people of Japan through this challenging time. Globally, Toyota and its members have taken on numerous initiatives to support the relief efforts for the March earthquake as well as the reconstruction efforts in Japan.'

Toyota's AYGO performed strongly with sales of 24,864 vehicles, up 16% from 2010. The Auris, Auris full hybrid and Corolla sedan continues to excel in the C-segment market with sales of the Auris family up 45% and the Corolla sedan up 63%. The Toyota Yaris remains competitive with sales of 45,402 vehicles.

Market demand for sport utility vehicles (SUV) remained high, with sales of the Toyota RAV4 and Land Cruiser increasing by more than 60%, sales of 22,498 and 11,757 vehicles respectively.

Lexus performed particularly well in the premium market, posting sales of 10,254 vehicles, an impressive increase of 43% from 2010. In March, Lexus in Europe broke the marque's all-time customer contract record with 6,519 customer contracts, spurred on by the strong performance of the new Lexus CT 200h.

Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles sales were up 28% from 2010, with sales of 25,919 vehicles which represents 11% of overall sales for Toyota in Europe. March also saw Toyota's global hybrid sales reach the 3 million mark.
